Lost IE

I had to do a complete reinstall on my computer. I use XP Home, and Firefox
as default browser. One day after a security update from microsoft, IE was
gone from my computer. I tried to do search to find out what happened. It
said no files in system???? I downloaded latest version of IE. It went
through download and install. It said it was installed and closed. Still
nothing different. Did another search, not in system????? What could be
going on?????? How can I get it back??? I need it for a couple of programs I
use, but can't work on without it.

What file name did you search for?
This is the normal place for IE:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"
