Another IE8 remembering password issue.

Hi,

My IE8 on Vista SP2 with latest patches, does not prompt me to remember
username and password for a specific sites. These sites remember
password/username without any problem in Firefox and chrome etc.

My following attempts failed to resolve the issue:
1. Open IE 8 in admin mode, reset IE 8, delete all data cookie forms etc and
restart windows.
2. Password IE option is checked in "prompt me to save passwords etc"

I might have "Clicked NO" in the past when password saving was offered in
the past.


Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try deleting AutoComplete History

Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > Content > Settings (AutoComplete)
> Delete AutoComplete history > CHECK / TICK Passwords > Delete

Needless to say, this will remove all password entries.

Hi,

I deleted AutoComplete history but it doesn't resolve the issue. Also
resetting IE 8 (Options>advanced>Reset) deletes entire user profile
including AutoComplete history.

I think when I was asked to remember password, clicking "No" will disable
password remembering feature permanently for that specific site, in a way
that deleting history or re-setting does not reset the feature to its
original state. Possible bug perhaps?

Hi,
Clearing all stored passwords *should* reset sites where you've elected to
not save passwords.

When you cleared Form data and Passwords from "Delete Browsing History," was
"Preserve Favorites website data" unchecked?

Try this...
Download and install IE PassView (NirSoft)
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/interne..._password.html

Run IEPassview and delete (if found) any listings for the affected sites.
See if that resets those sites.

Hi Don,
I unchecked "Preserve Favorites website data" to get rid of everything. Does
anyone know where IE passwords are located in registry so check and see if
anything remains there after clearing all password?

"Specific sites"? That's not that unusual. Financial institutions can make
a requirement *not* to save passwords using browsers. However, there
would be nothing to prevent you from using a third-party password manager
to circumvent such restrictions.

I suspect it's possible that those browsers do things they really shouldn't
as a purported convenience for their users. ; )

This fixed the problem for me. This is the second time I have ran
into this problem (LOGIN Credentials not remembered even if you click
"Remember Usernane and Password" checkbox in pop-up window).

This happened to me on my LAPTOP with IE7 (Even got Microsoft involved
which was a waste of time and crippled my browser, so I restored an
archive with IE6 and then installed IE8 which worked).

I just updated my desktop to XP SPK-3 (The video card died in my
laptop and I am waiting for replacement video card, so I paying the
price not keeping desktop updated), then installed IE8. Apparently
the problem is caused by YAHOO TOOLBAR. Uninstall toolbar will not
resolve.

download (It resolves the same issue with Windows Messenger and

You will need .Net Framework 2.0 to run the program (he has a link to
Microsoft download, don't install if the program works because you may
already have .NET Framework 3.x installed).

Good luck, hope this is the same issue you are experiencing! Fixed my
issue (as well as many others on first website), and I didn't have to
restore from a backup and throw out all my work updating computer...
