IE7 Running two processes in Task Manager
I am running a Dell computer (1 GHz PIII, 512MB RAM) with XP SP3. For some
reason I have noticed that IE 7 is running two processes under Task Manager,
both identically named but one with less Mem Usage. Other computers, Dell and
HP also running XP SP3 with IE7 are only running one process. I have run AVG
antivirus and have come up with no concerns on the system. Has anyone else
seen this or experienced this issue? Thanks.

Re: IE7 Running two processes in Task Manager
Are you saying that you have one (1) IE window open and you see two (2)
instances of IEXPLORE.EXE in Task Manager?
Are you sure you're not running IE8?

Re: IE7 Running two processes in Task Manager
I am using IE8 with 7 tabs and have 5 iexplore in Task Manager at
the present.
In TaskManager - Processes - click VIEW - Select Columns -
Check Image Path Names or Command Line.

Re: IE7 Running two processes in Task Manager
IE8 runs each website in its own process to combat websites that may crash
it.

Re: IE7 Running two processes in Task Manager
Hello,
You may also want to do a free spyware scan/remover by running
SuperAntispyware from
http://www.superantispyware.com
(the free HOME edition is sufficient for your needs)
Another good scanner and remover is MalwareBytes Anti-Malware

As others have indicated this is more common with IE8
but there is nothing unusual about it with other versions of IE.
Determining how it happens depends on how the addresses
involved with each instance were launched, in particular the
first address associated with launching the second instance
and how that was done. For example, I often found with IE6
that I was able to launch a new instance of iexplore.exe
by using the IE icon or a Favorite via my Start menu. YMMV.

Re: IE7 Running two processes in Task Manager
Sorry, yes, it IS IE8, not 7.

Re: IE7 Running two processes in Task Manager
For every IE8 window you open, there will be two instances of IEXPLORE.EXE.
See http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/200...liability.aspx
(applies to IE8 Final)

Re: IE7 Running two processes in Task Manager
Hello,
IE8 does not run each website on its own process. It is by tabs decided by
IE8 depending on RAM, number of tabs and other variables. See
