Tabs in IE8
How can I make IE8 open a new tab instead of opening a new window on my home
page tab when I click on a link from my home page? I would like to be able
to go back and forth on two tabs. I understand I can open a new tab by
clicking on the new tab button but then I would have to copy and past the
link into the new tab. That is what I am trying to get around.

Internet Options -> General tab -> Tabs section -> Settings button.
Go check the settings. What you want is there.
