Assist popups
I do not know how to explain it, and not sure where the source is making
this happen. IE7, or XP Pro, but have to start somewhere.
When I am using Yahoo or a few other search engines, when I hover the mouse
over the search field to type, a short pop assist message flashes. It is
very annoying and like to know how to turn that off. Some websites like MSN
doesn't have that showing up.
Hmmm, I just now noticed when I was typing the subject for this news post
using Outlook Express, the assist popup came on again, it says "type the
subject for this message". Now I am really confused what activates this.
Also what is it referred to as.
Thanks,
Mark

Re: Assist popups
Hi,
Turn off some of these from Control Panel> Folder Options> View> uncheck
"Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items.
At http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm the script on line 11 (left
side) may disable additional balloons/pop-ups.
On the webpages, what's the message at (for example) Yahoo?

Re: Assist popups
None of the suggestions worked, The annoying balloon flashes are still
present.
Yahoo search field flashes "Web Search"
Google search field flashes "Google Search"
Bing search field flashes "Enter your search term"
Outlook Express balloon flashes are:
Newsgroups Field = Type the newsgroup for this message
Cc Field = Type recipients name, separated by semicolon or comma
Subject field = Type the subject for this message.
Hope more suggestions follows to turn this off.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi,
Oh... those. Sorry I don't know how to disable those. I've learned to ignore

Re: Assist popups
If it was just a steady 2-3 second flash and disappears, then I can ignore
it too. But it keeps flashing over and over, and it interferes with right
click pasting. Just a big annoyance if you ask me.
Thanks, for the attempt.

Re: Assist popups
It should be steady for a few seconds. What's making it flash is not
something I have not run into. Maybe something in your mouse settings? Do
you have a different mouse you could try? It's activated by the cursor.

Re: Assist popups
Thanks Bruce, mystery solved. It looks like when using certain mouse
pointers, it will cause the continuing blinking effect. I just had to find
another pointer that I liked that did not cause the flashing effect.
