Hi,
Sometimes when I try to save a web page as .mht IE7 just hangs. the Cancel
button does nothing. When I kill the session in Task Manager it say "Unable
to Terminate because it's waiting for a response from you."
It certainly isn't waiting, not visibly anyway, there is never any dialogue
box.
When I select "End Anyway" it kills the window. It also kills any window that
spawned the hanging window. Sometimes it closes all my IE windows. What's
going on? is there a fix for this problem?
Hi,
1. Probably won't help, but see if clearing the Temporary Internet Files
helps.
2. Not all pages can be saved as MHT files. I find quite a few that can't
be. You may have to choose another format.
235589 - Error Message This Web Page Could Not Be Saved (as an MHT file) http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=235589

Hope this helps,

WYSIWYG. Closed as a suggestion to fix.
Use a newer OS. Otherwise rename your .mht file to .eml
and use a mail client (such as OE) to view them.
Clearing Temp files doesn't help. This happens independently of whether I
clear temp internet files or not.
I'm aware not all pages can be saved as .mht When I get those error
messages I just save as .htm and it works fine. But thanks very much for
suggesting something.
What's the problematic issue is that IE hangs claiming it's waiting for a
response from me but opens no dialog window to provide said response. So I
have to kill the window, which sometimes has cascading effects.

This is not helpful. And it is premature. IE7 runs on Vista.
Plus there's not a single word of explanation or even suspicion of what's
causing this problem and thus no guarantee or even indication that anyone
reading this thread running XP or earlier then choosing to upgrade would not
still see this very same issue.

Also, that is not even identifying the issue correctly.
The issue happens BEFORE there is even a .mht created. There is no .mht file
to rename to anything else, IE is hanging during the Save process while
trying to create the .mht.

3. Does the behavior persist if you boot into Safe Mode with Networking?
[Careful! Only remain in Safe Mode just long enough to test!]
4. What anti-virus application or security suite is installed, is your
subscription current, and is it supported in IE8? What anti-spyware
applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)?
5. Has a Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this machine
(e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought it)?
6. Is your computer fully-patched at Windows Update?

Ok, will do. WinXP SP2 32-bit, IE7 I was unable to apply SP3 because it
blue-screened my computer in both Normal and Safe modes. Had to do Repair
Reinstall of Windows to save my files, then re-install IE7 before I could get
online again.

The behavior is very intermittent. It might repeat the same day or take
several weeks to happen again. After I restart IE, go to the same page and
save as .mht it works every time so far.

Will read this, but again it's a very intermittent problem.

Intermittent. Cannot reproduce problem at will.

Yes. I keep patches updated ongoing except for SP3 which blue-screened my
computer as explained above.

Was IE7 still installed when you did the Repair Install?

By default, yes. You assume correctly that my system shipped w/ IE6. I
installed IE7 later. Then after the SP3 blue-screen IE6 would not work at
all. Seems IE7 left pieces around that stopped IE6 from working thru Repair
Install.
Thankfully I had IE7 downloaded on another computer and reinstalled IE7 so I
could get online again. That's what I've been running since, and keeping
Updates current.
