At the far right of the address bar in IE8, there is an arrow down which if
clicked should show a list of recent entries, but none are showing since I
upgraded to IE8. In Internet Options, General tab, history is set to save
the last 20 days. Not having recent entries showing as described above
requires me to re-enter frequently visited URLs over and over. How do I fix
this?
This is additional information concerning my inquiry. Using F4 shows the
same results as the drop-down arrow on the address bar, without any recent
entries.
Using Control+H does show all visited sites by day, but those are
alphabetical, and based on my high level of internet activity, the length of
that history can be voluminous, and not at all practical to use for returning
to a specific site, especially one that was quite recent in the day.

I see a similar inquiry from FrankZ on 4/7/09. To answer your questions you
posed to him concerning Autocomplete settings under Options/Content, Here's
what I have check marks in for those settings: Address Bar, Browsing History,
Favorites, Use Windows searcch for better options, Use names and passwords on
forms, and Ask me before saving passwords. I hope this and my previous
addition to my original inquiry is helpful.

Hi,
1. In AutoComplete settings, with only one IE window/one tab open, uncheck
Address Bar. Close IE. Restart the computer. Check Address Bar and other
options. Does that stick?
2. Are you, or is a program clearing the Run history (Start> Run?) This can
delete TypedURLs from the Address Bar.
3. See if a browser add-on is causing the problem.
Start Internet Explorer without add-ons from:
Right-click the IE icon on the desktop. Choose Start without add-ons.
or
Programs> Accessories> System tools> Internet Explorer (no add-ons)
If the problem goes away, you have an incompatible browser add-on installed.
4. See if a third-party program is causing the problem.

5. Third-party antivirus/antispyware programs should be disabled when
installing Internet Explorer. If they weren't you may have a corrupted
installation of IE8. Reinstalling with these programs disabled may be the
solution.

Thank you for your reply, Don. I tried to explore your items 1,2,3 & 4, but
nothing seemed to solve the problem. As near as I can tell, I am not the
only one that has experienced the problem as I outlined in my first posting
on this thread. With the IE8 being an "important update", I failed to see
what the advantages of installing IE8 were. Instead, I wound up with the
problem of the drop-down menu not working on the address bar of IE 8, so I
have solved the problem by un-installing IE8. Now that I am back to IE7, the
problem went away. Perhaps a solution to this can be devised by the IE8
development group, but until then, because the drop-down menu is so useful to
me, I'll just stay with IE7. I have revised my Windows update settings so
that IE8 won't automatically download and install. I hope the IE8 people
come up with a solution to this, as I understand IE8 has some security
advantages over IE7, but in order to have the drop-down menu from the address
bar, I guess I'll just rely on IE7 along with my McAfee Internet Security
software.
If there is a KB article on this yet, I would like to know about it. By
the way, even though I check-marked the "Notify me of replies", I didn't get
any such notice. Instead, I revisited this discussion group by saving the URL
to check for one.
