Windows cannot find Internet Explorer

Every time I try to start Internet Explorer (This occured on IE7 and IE8),
Windows gives me the following error message:

Windows cannot find 'C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe'. Make
sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file,
click the Start button, and then click Search.


How do I fix this?

Locate this file in your unknown version of Windows:

c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe

and double-click on it.

I have tried that already.
Same error.

I'm running Windows XP Professional SP3.

Check your NTFS permissions. Start with the C:\...\Internet Explorer folder.

Please state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; Vista SP2) when
posting to this newsgroup.

Start | Run | IEXPLORE.EXE | OK => What happens?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)? Were any of these applications running
in the background when you installed IE7 (if WinXP) or IE8?

Has a Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this machine
(e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought it)?
