IE 8 Won't Connect When Opening New Tab or Window

Windows XP Pro, 1GB RAM

Greetings,
I have 2 open tabs. Frequently, though not always, when I click on a link
that opens up a new tab or window, IE 8 will open the tab and/or window and
not load the site. The green "loading" bar will start and eventually IE 8
will comeback and say can't connect. The links on the other 2 tabs that have
been open work fine...it's only when a new tab or windows is opened via a
link.
This only happens after the computer/IE 8 has been operating after many
hours. My solution has been to close IE 8, restart IE 8 and then everything
works as it should.
