Upload & download speed

Is there any reliable way to verify the upload & download speed of the
internet connection?

Actually, no. In the first place, there are too many variables that
factor into upload and download times. Second, there is no generally
agreed-upon method for measuring.

What you /can/ do is to get a sense of how fast your upload and download
is, by trying one of the many websites that try to measure this (each in
their own way.) You would do this with several such websites, at
different times of the day, over a period of several days.

You'll get a different measurement every time, of course, but by
averaging them you'll have a good feel for how fast you upload and download.
