where is the registry key that places the favorites icon in IE 8

In general IE 8 seems okay but I don't like seeing the favorites Icon.
I happily gave up tabbed browsing to get rid of it in IE 7. Getting
rid of tabbed browsing and the favorites bar still leaves the icon
there in IE 8. Can anyone tell me what registry entries contol this
icon?
