I get the same error on two different machines, one a homebuilt, another a
Dell Laptop, each about 1.5 yrs old, both running XP SP3, each with an Intel
Core 2 proc, and 4GB ram. Norton Internet Suite, Spyware Doctor and
Spyblaster are also installed.
First off, the IE7 Icons are never removed during IE8's install. Without
fail I get the same error on both machines having tried to install directly
from the web, or from a download of IE8. I've not tried in Compatibility
Mode, nor in No Add-ons Mode, nor in Safe Mode nor after having reset IE
Advanced Settings - why should I? If IE8 is ready for prime time it should
install and work with out such BS. I HAVE tried installing with the Norton
Suite and all other Spyware off and on. Same failure both ways. Until I see
a reason for and a fix for this problem posted here or somewhere on an MS
site, I will not continue to waste my time with IE8.
