IE 8 installed and now all browsers cannot connect to the Internet

I did a windows update last night and installed 4 items, IE 8 and Windows
Genuine being the two I can remember. After what appeared to be a successful
install IE and firefox cannot connect to the Internet. Other programs that
use the internet seem to work fine (windows live sync, a time setter and
Outlook). I am using Zone Alarm but turning that off did not fix the problem

When I try and connect to a site I get a "Diagnose Connection Problems"
button. The I run that I get

Windows cannot connect to the Internet using HTTP, HTTPS of FTP. This is
probably caused by firewall settings on this computer.

Check the firewall settings for the HTTP port(80), HTTPS port(443) and FTP
port(21).

You might need to contact your Internet service provider (ISP) or the
maufauturer of your firewall software.

when I view the diagnostic log. I see FTP (Passive): Successfully connected
to ftp.microsoft.com. And warn HTTP: Error 12029 connecting to
www.microsoft.com



One off the other updates was an update to the .NET framework 3.5

It was the router! Not sure exactly what but I restarted it and now am back
in action.

[The fact that ZA (and your anti-virus app) was running in the background
when you installed IE8 may have had something to do with it.]
