No such problem here. Since you haven't told us what Favorite you're
talking about, or even what version of Windows you have, you must be
looking for a guess. I'll take two guesses:

1. Your computer is infected with malware.
2. Your security software does not allow the delete to stick.

As others with this symptom you are probably using some kind of external
webdrive/backup service that puts these thigns back. It's surely not IE doing
that.

Re: IE7 Fav Delete Bug
Sorry forgot, I am using XP Pro SP3 and IE7.

here is my problem, suppose I have a shortcut on my desktop, to
www.microsoft.com I double click to open it, when the MS page loads, I
deleted that shortcut. but after few seconds it reappears, and now its icon
is different, its icons is changes to the website fav icon. same if the
shortcut is in the favorites/bookmark folder.

I am a developer, I think its a bug related to favicon loading.
Possible bug: when we open a site,
1. IE start looking for favicon and opens the file handle of the shortcut
file
2. the user deletes the shortcut.
3. IE finished loading the favicon, and put the icon to the shortcut. that
gives us a new shortcut.

I experience this on multiple pcs, and with almost all links.

I can't reproduce this. How did you create that shortcut? I dragged a URL to
the desktop, close the IE window, double-clicked the shortcut, waited for the
window and the navigation to the site, then deleted the icon. It's gone for
good. Tried it several times.

This is a possible explanation if I could reproduce the issue. When exactly do
you delete the shortcut? I mean if IE is still navigating to the site and
fetching data this behavior might be expected. But it's at least impossible
for me to delete the shortcut that quick.

I don't see how this provides any help to understand what you exactly did.
Can't you give a step by step explanation that anyone of us could
reproduce exactly? Otherwise I can just say that it doesn't happen here.

Also, I notice that the internet shortcuts for that site are overlayed by
a shortcut arrow. An internet shortcut icon should not have such an
overlay. Could this be a hint to your problem?

Kai,

I think OP is implying a race condition exists. You are waiting for the
page to render, including downloading a possibly different favicon?
It sounds as if the deletion has to occur before the favicon is rendered.
I have no idea how you could reliably reproduce that case.
Perhaps have the TIF password protected so you get a prompt
before any downloading is done? Otherwise just click, delete
and pray that the deletion occurs before the rendering starts. ; }

Good luck
