PA Bear
Whats the point of directing me to the very thread I just posted in ?
As far as the rest of your post ..it's a canned reply that I have seen
before and is basically worthless.

Re: Windows Mail attachments won't open after installing IE8
I agree. Further, I think Microsoft is the problem here as everything was
working fine (ALL attachments opened) under IE7 but now, MS/Office 2007
files FAIL to open under IE8. Hmmmm. Then, I read the horror stories folks
are having when trying to uninstall IE8. I suspect the problem also has
something to do with the original, factory installed, DELL branded IE7.
Please HELP, Microsoft. Thanks!

Re: Windows Mail attachments won't open after installing IE8
My apologies. I thought you'd started a new thread with a similar/identical
post, especially because you neglected to quote the post(s) to which you
were replying. (Why are you using Google Groups to post here if you use
Windows Mail?)
The reply & questions are not worthless: Thousands of users have installed
IE8 in Vista & Win XP and have not encountered the attachment behavior being
discussed in this thread. The issues I raise are possible reasons why you
and so many others have encountered the issue and may help to resolve the
problem.

Re: Windows Mail attachments won't open after installing IE8
OK, I've since been on to MC AFEE, who doesn't acknowledge that its their
problem. As a test, they had me disable both the antivirus and firewall
protection ... I then tried to open a newly recd MS/WORD attachment ... no
luck. Thus, I toss the ball back to Microsoft as it really does appear to
be an IE8 glitch/bug. BTW, I deleted all (mostly all) of the temporary
internet files ... still no luck. Pls help!

Re: Windows Mail attachments won't open after installing IE8
Following further advice received from McAfee:
1. Click on blue Vista start button and in the Start Search box type in:
Default.
2. Click on the Default Programs icon that appears at the top of the
Start Menu.
3. Click on Set Your Default Programs and set Windows Mail as the
default email program.
I did the above; just out of curiosity, I then clicked on Internet Explorer
and got the message:
"Windows Internet Explorer 7 provides an easier and more secure web browsing
experience ..."
Huh !?!? Windows Internet Explorer 7 ??? Version 7 ??? I did a double
check of Help|About Internet Explorer ... and indeed, I'm running IE8 (Ver.
8.0.6001.18702).
Soooo, I'm running IE8, but the Vista default is IE7 ??? Does this tell you
guys anything?
Thanks/ELJAYEM

Re: Windows Mail attachments won't open after installing IE8
[Disabling the McAfee applications /now/ isn't going to fix it. You should
have disabled them before you installed IE8.]

Re: Windows Mail attachments won't open after installing IE8
OK ... Woulda, coulda, shoulda.
But how can I correct the problem?
I can't even find IE8 or IE7 in the "Uninstall or change a program" module
of the Control Panel!
Judging from other posts, this clearly looks like a Microsoft created
problem that y'all are dodging and blaming the "other guy" (in this case
McAfee). I am really disappointed/disgusted. Do you blame me?
Thanks!

Re: Windows Mail attachments won't open after installing IE8
Thanks Gordon ... I've looked for: "Windows Internet Explorer", "Microsoft
Internet Explorer" and just plain old "Internet Explorer". None are listed
in "Uninstall or change a program" module.

Try looking under Windows Updates or Add/Remove Windows Components...
