Bug in IE 8

I have tried everything to get Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 to be the
default mail in IE 8. I uninstalled AVG and A-Squared and disabled Zone
Alarm before re-installing IE 8. I then re-installed AVG and A-Squared. I
made sure that Office Outlook is set as the default. Office Outlook is set
as the mail default in 'Programs' in Internet Options. Still when I press
the mail icon on the tool bar, Windows Live Mail opens. I don't want
Windows Live Mail! It is slow most times. It won't close right completely.
Sometimes it won't open. When I look in the Program Manager, its' .exe file
is open two and more times. Microsoft Office Outlook would open in IE 7.
What is the problem? I have XP Home SP3.

Why do you keep starting new threads about this problem in both this
newsgroup and Outlook General?

Repost from my reply to your second thread about this:

1. Select Outlook as the default email program in Set Program Access and
Defaults.

2. Select OL as the default in IE Tools | Internet Options | Programs |
Email.

3. Select Outlook as the default email program in OL Tools | Options |
General.

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed, is your
subscription current, and is it supported in IE8? What anti-spyware
applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)?
Were any of these applications running in the background when you installed
IE8?

Has a Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this machine
(e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought it)?

And here's my earlier reply (that seems to not be propagating through the
news serverss for some reason)

Posting the same question multiple times really doesn't help. In this
thread and the others, you were offered suggestions that are the correct way
to make Outlook 2007 the default e-mail client and the only reply that you
keep posting is that "it doesn't work"

Exactly what doesn't work?
Is Outlook 2007 installed and does it work properly if you start it
manually?
Is Outlook 2007 listed as the default e-mail client in the Program Defaults
mentioned in your other thread?

I did everything you said. I have AVG as my Anti-Virus. I have A-Squared
as a spyware scanner. I have Zone Labs as a firewall. I have XP Home SP3.
I haven't found any information about IE 8 and these Programs. I have
Windows Live Mail that's slow most of the time and will not close completely
when I exit it. I did a repair to the Microsoft Office Program. It works.

Ok to sort out this problem for XP go to Control Panel then go to add or
remove programs then on the left of that window click Set Program Access and
Defaults. When you have got to this screen click on Custom, then go to the
select your default email program and click the one you want!

--THIS WILL BE A SIMILAR PROCESS IN VISTA--BUT SOME THINGS MAY BE
DIFFERENT-- Sorry but I could only do this for XP not Vista!
