IE8 bug: compatibility mode sticks long after I have left site

compatibility mode sticks around long after I have left the site that needed
it.
this is wrong. I don't want to apply compatibility mode to sites that can
handle IE8 unknowingly.

IE8 is broken.

for instance, my site can handle IE8 just fine. but after visiting a site
that neeeded compatibility mode, I pressed the button. after leaving the site
to go to mine, compatibility mode was still there and the button still
depressed.
