Desktop Problems After Installing IE8

After installing IE8, I noticed that my desktop temporarily goes white for a
few seconds after logging on. It happens on both XP Home and Pro SP3. My
logon screen is blue. I log on. It eventually draws my blue taskbar and
the desktop goes white. It can last several seconds, but varies. Then I
get my blue desktop and it works fine.

Another problem is that when I change my desktop and click apply, it doesn't
change. When I restart my computer, it then changes.

I notice it only if I have Right-Click Desktop>Arrange Icons By>Show Desktop
Icons unchecked, though. I use a hidden Windows toolbar docked on the left
side of my screen, so I don't show my icons on the desktop. If I check it
(Show Desktop Icons), however, they both work as expected.

This only showed up after installing IE8. An MS phone support
representative and I eventually noticed it. Hope they can do something
about it.

I am a similar issue with IE8, but it enlarges any desktop background
images, larger than normal. Let me know if someone has a fix.

Same problem here, with Windows XP SP3.
