IE8 - JavaScript error.
It seems that IE8 can ask for several JavaScript files at a time, not
waiting on a response before making another request (GET). This is
leading to some JavaScript problems when connecting to a web server in
an embedded system.

The problem does not occur with IE7 or Firefox 3. And if I use an http
proxy server, the problem does not occur with IE8.

Here is a typical error:

User Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 5.1;
Trident/4.0; .NET CLR 1.1.4322)
Timestamp: Fri, 27 Mar 2009 22:34:58 UTC

Message: Expected '}'
Line: 48
Char: 5
Code: 0
URI: http://192.168.1.228/Validate.js

This JavaScript error does not occur when I use an http proxy.

Why does this make a difference?

How can I determine if this is an IE8 problem or an embedded web server
problem?

Regards,

Frank

Re: IE8 - JavaScript error.
I'm having similar issues; are we really the only two people seeing
this?

I solved my problem by just using Apache to serve our Javascript files
(we had been using a Java servlet running through Tomcat to serve our
JS before). We might have just been able to adjust the headers set by
the servlet (I suspect that the "chunking" header was at least part of
the problem, as Apache wasn't setting that header but the servlet was,
and I was seeing "chunks" of files missing or mixed together).
However, I wasn't able to get the headers the way I wanted in the
first few hours I worked on it, and we realized we didn't really need
the servlet anymore anyway, so ... ditching it was the easiest
solution.

Hope that helps anyone else experiencing the same isssue.
