IE8 stopped working...but not really...

32-Bit Windows Vista Business - SP1 installed
Installed IE8. Now, randomly, but usually when I close IE8, I'll get a
message box stating that IE8 has stopped working and will be closed. It
appears to be related to the number of tabs open, as when I close IE8 with 2
tabs open, I get 2 message boxes. Also, IE8 hasn't actually stopped working.
If I close the message box(es) by clicking the "X" in the upper right, IE8
continues to run as normal.

The following error is logged in the Application Log when this happens:
Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 8.0.6001.18702, time stamp
0x49b3ad2e, faulting module msxml3.dll, version 8.100.1048.0, time stamp
0x48c0bf8d, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x000021e0, process id
0x74ec, application start time 0x01c9b034817d0560.

I can't find anything online about msxml3.dll except for it being a
cause/cure for IE8 killing the Windows Sidebar (my sidebar is functioning
normally, so this didn't help).

Any suggestions on how to fix this or trace the problem down are welcome. My
next step would be to try reinstalling any XML patches related to version 3.

Hi,
1. You may have an incompatible browser add-on installed. Given the sporadic
nature of the problem, you may have to disable an add-on or two for a while
to see if the problem ceases.

2. If the problem is not caused by an add-on, look for a third-party program
as the cause.
