IE8 Home pages won't load
I'm running xp prp sp3 and installed IE8 and two of my home pages will not
load. this is what it said:
1) We were unable to return you to charter.com.
Internet Explorer has stopped trying to restore this website. It appears
that the website continues to have a problem.
What you can do:
Go to your home page
Try to return to charter.com
More information
When a website causes a failure or crash, Internet Explorer attempts to
restore the site. It stops after two tries to avoid an endless loop
2) We were unable to return you to netzero.net.
Internet Explorer has stopped trying to restore this website. It appears
that the website continues to have a problem.
What you can do:
Go to your home page
Try to return to netzero.net
More information
When a website causes a failure or crash, Internet Explorer attempts to
restore the site. It stops after two tries to avoid an endless loop.

Re: IE8 Home pages won't load
1. Does the behavior persist if you start IE in No Add-ons mode? To start
IE in No Add-ons mode:
=> Right-click on the blue IE desktop icon and select Start without
Add-ons; or
=> Start | (All) Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Internet
Explorer (No add-ons).
Troubleshooting and Internet Explorer’s (No Add-ons) Mode:
http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2006/07/25/678113.aspx
2. Does the behavior persist if you Reset IE Advanced settings (RIES)?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737 <= Read before using!
3. Does the behavior persist if you boot into Safe Mode with Networking?
[Careful! Only remain in Safe Mode just long enough to test!]
4a. What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)? Were any of these applications running
in the background when you installed ?
4b. Has a Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this machine
(e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought it)?

Re: IE8 Home pages won't load
I haven't heard from you. I answered your questions 1 thru 4 below your
question in
( ) below your questions.
I also removed netzero and charter from my home page but I still cannot open
these pages and its where my email is. In order to get my email I have to use
my brothers computer.
Dr. Watson for windows has created application errors for this.

Re: IE8 Home pages won't load
Your replies in parentheses were confusing. (Please avoid them.) It looked
like you hadn't replied to #4a or #4b so I didn't post a reply.
Here's a tutorial covering Safe Mode options:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto...utorial61.html
BitDefender hasn't offered an anti-spyware application, let alone a free
one, in years. When did you install it? Did you download it from
www.bitdefender.com or another website? Are you sure it's not BitDefender
Free anti-virus?
The above notwithstanding, your anti-virus application, any anti-spyware
applications (other than Windows Defender) and any third-party firewall
(e.g., Sunbelt) should have been disabled AND the Windows Firewall enabled
before installing IE8. Same applies to uninstalling it, which I would
recommend doing now. (Uninstalling IE8 automatically returns the machine to
the IE version you'd been using before you installed it.)
How to uninstall or remove Internet Explorer 8
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957700
After uninstalling IE8 per the above & rebooting twice, you need to confirm
that your PCTools, BitDefender, and Sunbelt applications are supported in
IE8. If they are, try reinstalling IE8 per the above & rebooting twice.

Re: IE8 Home pages won't load
Sorry about the confusion.
In respomces to 4a:
my antivirus is PC Tools Antivirus and BitDefender Free versions and is up
to date.
I have no anti-spyware application other than Windows Defender.
my third-party firewall, Sunbelt Personnal Firewall, free version and is up
to date.
In respomces to 4b:
Never had Norton, McAfee or free-trial version applications installed on
this machine.
I'll disabled everything and enable the Windows Firewall as you suggested,
uninstall than reinstall IE8 and I'll let you know.
