I have scoured my HD for malware, spyware and even tableware but I am still
getting lots of "Cannot Connect".
Using IE8 Beta on XPSP3 system.

Right pew, wrong church: Try microsoft.public.internetexplorer.beta
Did you see this behavior prior to installing IE8 Beta?

Uninstall the beta and wait until the software is released.
