sharepoint 2007 - custom column issue

Hi,

This is karthik.
I want you to clarify my doubt as soon as possible.My problem is,
In a particular sharepoint portal site I need to extended one more column
called 'Equipment Description'.See the possibilities of auto entry of data
for Equipment Description based on the 'Equipment No'.

Please provide me the steps if it is possible.

if its not possible, guide me to get the solution through programming.

Hi Peter !

I've sent my two different issues on MOSS.Why u people are reply like this.I
want immediate solution.Because my customer is asking me everyday.I dont know
when will you people giving me the answer???
