Cannot reach Microsoft Updates

When I try to go to Microsoft Update Center, it takes me to the Google search
page.
I am running Windows XP Pro and Internet Explorer 6. I would like to update
these but can't get there from here. Same happens when I click check for
updates.

When I try to update Media Player, it says the page can't be found when I
check on download. Please help.

This might be a hijack. Have you checked your computer for malware and viruses? If not,
you need to do it immediately.

Unexplained computer behavior may be caused by deceptive software

Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting the requested logs
in an appropriate forum.

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA or Geek Squad) computer repair shop.
