impossible to save passwords on forms

One of my systems (WinXP) got some strange trouble - it is impossible to save
passwords even if "User names and passwords on forms" checkbox on
"Auto-complete settings" enabled. I tried to reinstall IE7, tried to install
IE8 beta, rebooting, disable-enable this checkbox, virus check with Symantec
etc. - nothing helped.

Can you suggest something to resolve this strange behaviour? Maybe, some
registry key to check?
