Interent Explorer won't connect to internet

Heres the situation: My old laptop will only connect to the internet thru the
MSN Explorer browser. It used to work on IE 7 however after a recent
automatic update from Microsoft it will only work on the MSN browser. I run
diagonastic and it indicates my firewall may be the problem. I have removed
the firewall without it helping. I uninstalled IE7 and went back to IE6
without fixing the problem. I'm running Windows XP. The laptop has had
several virsus and been repaired several times. Any ideas?

Mozzilla connects just fine for me but not explorer and all my automatic
updates and such report that I am not connected yet I am, mozzilla works
fine. It is insane.

A Repair Install will not help. You may have (much) more work to do.

1. See if you can download/run the MSRT manually:

2. Run this online scan (in safe mode w/networking, if need be):

3. Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting the requested
logs in an appropriate forum, not here.

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.
