default email setting for IE7

in Firefox they have in Tools->Options->Applications->Mail to, in
which I can specify my at&t webmail. I suppose Firefox is picking up the
webmail page from the registry.
When a link like "Reply to:" in craigslist is clicked, my webmail email page
comes up and if I've already logged in, an email will be started already
with the destination email address inserted.

Is there any simple/direct way to config this in IE7? Right now, the
webmail
option is not listed in the picklist for Tools->Internet
Options->Programs->Email
Only client mail programs are shown and IE7 seems to have no awareness of
webmail on the machine.

att&t/yahoo tech support is saying that I must use their toolbar or their
version of IE to have that option available.
I don't want extra toolbars and I'm hoping to be able to set up other
machines quickly for this. Everyone I deal with doesn't want to mess with
client email programs.

A qualified No: If (and only if) the account is an AT&T/Yahoo account (i.e.,
if you access web-mail on a yahoo.com page), you can install Yahoo Messenger
and then enable an option to make Yahoo Mail the default.

Several machines I've tried were XPsp3

That's kind of surprising.
I guess my best option will be to have everyone's machines
default to Firefox.
The main thing I need to figure out how to do quickly is
to make the favorites/bookmarks look the same to the user.

To change the "Default Email Program" open the registry:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail]

and replace the "Default" value with the name of the subkey
that you want to use. If it's empty, tell me which email you
want to use.

You'll lose some functionality, like being able to include the subject that
is sometimes built into mailto: links, but the following registry edit will
cause IE to go to yahoo mail when you click a mail to link. Paste the text
into notepad & save it as yahoomail.reg Double click to merge the file.

If you don't have the file "ymmapi.dll" in Yahoo's installation folder:

2. Save-as registry.reg

3. Double-click or right-click-->Merge.


Now you can open IE and go to 'Tools-->Internet Options-->Programs'
