Moving from IE(6)Win XP to IE(7) Vista but with catches

My old Win XP machine is dead. Well at least the Motherboard is dead. The
disk has been saved and may well be available as an external drive to my new
vista machine.
How do I import my IE favorites from the old drive for use on my new vista
machine.
I wonder if I can run any of the programs from that drive?
