IE7 not playing mp3 or swf anymore
Greetings.
I find that downloading a .swf or .mp3 file extension type from a website
does not automatically play in IE anymore.
I don't have a .wmv or .wma file readily available to download, but I can
put one up on my site and find out if that works. It's should be something
simple as nothing major has change on my system that I can recall in the
last year. May be a service, or add-on, or something blocking it. Used to
be URL ie http://xxxx.mp3 would open QuickTime within the browser and
http://xxxx.wmv would open WMP with option to show within or external of IE.
IE will play Quick Time or .swf within the browser if opening the file
manually on the local machine.
What am I overlooking?
Thank you so kindly,
Kevin

OS: WinXP SP3
IE: 7 (no other browsers even installed)

Added information neglected in the first post:
IE body area just stays blank, but the bottom left has a yellow flag saying
"Done". Double clicked on it and it shows:
Problems with the Web page might prevent it from being displayed properly or
functioning properly. etc etc
Line: 1
Char: 1
Error: Object expected
Code: 0
URL: http://xxxxx.swf
and
Line: 2
Char: 1
Error: Invalid character
Code: 0
URL: http://xxxxx.swf

Hope this can help. Thanks.
Kevin

In order to have a .swf file open in IE7 when you click on a link that leads
directly to the .swf file on the Internet(as in the example you've posted),
you must have Local Machine Lockdown enabled. To enable Local Machine
Lockdown, you must remove the checkmark in the following:
"Tools||Internet Options||Advanced||Security||Allow active content to run in
files on My Computer"

Good luck,

Donald Anadell

Thank you, Donald. That worked just fine. I would've never guessed and I
did look into the Knowledge base. Is there any disadvantage of having this
unchecked? I do not know what it is suppose to be to begin with.

BTW: I keep years of information from the newsgroups as I never know when it
will come in handy again. So your answers may be used again when I turn
around and help others research their issues. *smiles*
Have a good one!
Kevin
