E-Mail Attachments

I'm running Vista Home Premium, IE7 & use Windows Live e-mail - w/a hotmail
account. I have problems opening attachments. I have to try many times
before it opens (once in a while it opens on 1st try-but not often). It has
happened on .pdf and .xls files.
It shows a window saying getting file information and goes no further.

I can open the attachment on another computer running the same software.
Any advice on what I need to do so the attachments will open 1st try?
