Re: IE&/ IE8 Hang.....
Internet Explorer 8 has not been released, and will not be released
until mid-2009. You are working with beta software. With a beta, you
expect to have problems. That's the whole idea: it's for developer testing.

Actually, it was better with IE8 that with IE 7.

Is there an IE 7 solution?

Go read your original post. Just where do you THINK you ever mentioned
what was the prior version of IE before installing version 8? In fact,
you said you SWITCHED to IE8 which says absolutely nothing about what
you were using before. Maybe you were using Opera or Firefox before.

Think man think!

Tried resetting IE8 yet?
Tried loading IE8 in its no add-ons mode yet?

Visit the group that discusses the beta version. This group discusses
the released versions of Internet Explorer. To use Microsoft's
webnews-for-dummies interface (which demands that scripting be enabled)
to visit the Internet Explorer beta group, go to:

http://www.microsoft.com/communities...xplorer. beta

A much better solution is to use a newsreader (e.g., Outlook Express,
Thunderbird, Forte Agent, 40tude Dialog, XanaNews, Xnews). If you do
not have or do not want to use your own NNTP (Network News Transfer
Protocol) server, connect your newsreader to:

msnews.microsoft.com

Then go visit the Internet Explorer *BETA* group at:

microsoft.public.internetexplorer.beta

Re: IE&/ IE8 Hang.....
1. Uninstall IE8B2 & reboot twice.

2. Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis
log to an appropriate forum.

Checking for/Help with Hijackware
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm
http://aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm
http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=5878

http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/Malware_Defence.htm
http://defendingyourmachine2.blogspot.com/
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/...moving_Malware

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use (in
conjunction with some other utilities). HijackThis will NOT fix anything on
its own, but it will help you to both identify and remove any
hijackware/spyware with assistance from an expert. **Post your log to
http://spywarehammer.com/simplemachi...php?board=10.0,
http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=22,
http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30, or another appropriate forum for review
by an expert in such matters, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA or Geek Squad) computer repair shop.

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing programs like Messenger Plus,
whose ads for malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince
you that you owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.
