How essential is this program?

How essential is Internet Explorer to Windows XP? I really hate it so much.
Nothing but a big headache. If I uninstall it and run with Apple Safari, and
Firefox, which run extremely well. will I still be ok?

You can't uninstall IE bacause it is part of the operating system.
You can install and run Apple Safari, Firefox, etc. without problems.

IE is part and parcel of Windows. While you cannot uninstall it, you can
disable access to it via Add/Remove Programs | Add/Remove Windows
Components.
