IE 7 Close issue
I have Vista Home Premium SP1, IE7. When I click X to close or close IE7
session or close in the bottom tray, instead of closing IE7, I get a msg get
a msg "IE has stopped working windows is chkg for solution to problem". If
let it run with circle eventually I get a 2nd popup msg "IE has stopped
working a problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will
close the program and notify you if a solution is available." If I click on
the 2nd popup to close program it eventually closes but all of this process
is quite time consuming and sometimes IE7 seems to get hung and Control, Alt,
Delete to Task Manager to shut it down doesn't always work requiring a
Restart or Shutdown. Sometimes IE7 seems to restart itself during this
process. Any suggestions on what is causing this and how to fix it?

Re: IE 7 Close issue
Run Internet Explorer 7 in 'No Add-Ons' mode:

Start > type Internet Explorer in the Start Search box > click Internet
Explorer (No Add-Ons)

Alternatively, you can create a shortcut on your desktop with the
following target path:

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -extoff

If no problems occur in 'No Add-Ons' mode, the problem is caused by one
of the add-ons that load together with Internet Explorer 7.

Problems with Internet Explorer can also be caused by the presence of
viruses or other malicious software.

I know of three causes for the vast majority of such problems:
1. You might have incompatible add-ons:
Go to Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools
and click Internet Explorer (No Add-ons).

2. Tools | Internet Options | Advanced
Scroll to the bottom and click Reset Internet Explorer Settings. Read this
article first:
How to use Reset Internet Explorer Settings (RIES):
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737
Note that the Reset IE Settings button will delete AutoComplete data (such
as passwords.) Do you have those backed up?

3. Malware already installed on the computer: Help with malware

Unexplained computer behavior may be caused by deceptive software.

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing programs like Messenger Plus,
whose ads for
malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince you that you
owe it to the author. See also:
http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=27971
Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.

You might also try the steps here:

Re: IE 7 Close issue
Seems to be a relatively common issue.

Here's a link with some suggestions culled from various help forums:
http://www.overclock.net/windows/271...-exe-loop.html

Maybe one of the things in there will help you?

Re: IE 7 Close issue
Noticed the same IE "not responding" issue crop up on a laptop just
after clean installing Flash 10. Laptop ran flawlessly before. Noticed
other users talking about this issue here:
