I was able to find a cause of "Internet Explorer has stopped working" crash
that I have been continually running into. It turned out to be an entry in
the address bar history that was set to "Control Panel\Network and
Internet\Network Connections". Deleting this entry from the registry key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs corrected
the problem. Re-adding this entry caused the crash to re-appear. To cause
the crash, open an IE window and click the down arrow in the address bar.
