No jpg thumbnails just an x

When I search in Live search or Google for pictures, about 90% of the
thumbnails are blank frames with a red 'x' in the top left corner.
How do I repair this problem?

(Message headers suggest Windows XP.)

1. Clear the Temporary Internet Files
2. Try disabling third-party toolbars or security programs which might be
blocking ads or content which appears to be an ad. Or examine settings of
such programs for an ad-blocking feature.
