no internet

One of the computers on my network cannot get to the internet. It has an IP
address. I can ping different websites but each time I try and browse to a
web site I receive "internet explorer cannot display the webpage". I'm using
IE7 on Windows XP. I've searched for a virus and I'm got nothing.

Always state your IE version and full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3) when
posting to this newsgroup, please.

Is this a sudden, new problem? Is the machine in question fully patched at
Windows Update?
