IE 7

Running XP svc pack 2
IE 7 briefly displays an Installing(or Windows Installer) dialog box each
time I start IE or open a new tab. I am trying to solve several problems
which started 2 or 3 weeks ago. this is one of them. it's annoying

No way to know whether this particular problem is related to "several
problems which started 2 or 3 weeks ago" since we're not psychic.

Do you think malware may be involved?

I don't think so. The start of my problems began when my router quit working
and I installed a new one.
