Internet Explorer is stubborn

Ok, here's my problem, I'm needing to install these programs and the install
wizard says I gotta close internet explorer, but I don't even have it open, I
hafta look at the processes in the task manager to find to instances of
iexplore.exe, but when I try to end the processes either nothing happens or
iexplore.exe will reappear, it just won't go away, does anyone know how to
fix this?
