Help us help you. Be more precise and give exact examples.
FYI "entering the addresses into the address bar" allows an interpretation
that you are not entering full URLs (i.e. address complete with a protocol prefix.)
In that case what you are entering may not be being converted to a URL
but instead treated as a search argument for your Address bar search.
Then your symptom could be telling you that your Address bar search
wasn't working. (For example.) Notice that when you use Favorites
or links in web pages (which you claim do work) you more than likely
are using full URLs as a result.
In addition take careful note of *all* your symptoms.
Things may be happening in the Status bar, Title bar,
Tab label, Address bar, as well as in the display area
of the window. Remember your words have to substitute
for what our eyes might notice.
Alternatively, if the No Add-ons diagnostic procedure isn't helping you
identify a cause you may have to resort to more conventional clean-boot
troubleshooting techniques. On that tack I would suggest you definitely
try uninstalling third-party Internet accessories such as the Google search bar
(not just disable them, unless disabling them changes your symptoms
for the better.) ; )
Good luck
