IE7 Shuts down when I close a window.
I purached a new HP Pavillion a couple of months ago, and have had a problem
from the get-go. Issue is, I work overseas and our connection speeds over
here are so bad that this is the best format I've found for help.
Here is the issue: When I am surfing on IE7, if I open a new window (either
for viewing a new webpage or even for pop-ups) and then I close the second
(or third, fourth, fifth, etc.) window, IE7 freezes, then shuts down and then
restarts itself, losing any pages that i had been viewing in these windows.
Typically it's just frustrating and I deal with it, but my fiance' sent me an
ipod and I tried to download itunes and there is a tiny little pop up window
that closes itself after jut a fraction of a second. When that happens, all
of my windows close and I have to start over. After 5 tries i am ready to
throw my hands in the air and my computer into the river.

Re: IE7 Shuts down when I close a window.
Hi,
Windows XP or Vista? (Might or might not matter.)
Start IE7 without add-ons from:
Right-click the IE icon on the desktop. Choose Start without add-ons.
or
Programs> Accessories> System tools> Internet Explorer (no add-ons)
If the problem goes away, you have an incompatible browser add-on installed.
Start IE normally (add-ons enabled) then close it.
Go to Internet Options> Programs> Manage add-ons. Disable all add-ons then
re-enable them
one at a time until the troublesome add-on shows itself. Leave that one
disabled or uninstall it or see if there's an updated version which won't
cause problems with IE7.

Plan B:
You may be looking for a third-party program which is not a browser add-on.
See: 936214- How to troubleshoot compatibility problems that affect IE7 in
Windows Vista:

This
"tiny little pop up window that closes itself after just a fraction of a
second"
sounds like the work of a pop-up blocker, maybe Ad-Aware/Adwatch?
Hope this helps,

Re: IE7 Shuts down when I close a window.
Okay, got IE started in seperate windows without add-ons. Closed windows
individually with no problems. This is rather embarassing...I can drill oil
wells all over the world, but I don't know how to turn add-ons off. Please
help?

Re: IE7 Shuts down when I close a window.
Hi,
Close / re-open IE. Add-ons should be enabled again.
Go to Internet Options> Programs> Manage add-ons. Disable all add-ons then
re-enable them one at a time until the troublesome add-on shows itself.
Leave that one disabled or uninstall it or see if there's an updated version
which won't cause problems with IE7.
Or, disable add-ons on at a time until problem returns to find the
troublesome add-on.
For toolbars and add-ons which can be easily reinstalled (google, yahoo,
live toolbars, etc) it may be better to simply uninstall them while
troubleshooting the issue than to disable them.

Re: IE7 Shuts down when I close a window.
Until you have ie7 sorted, you might consider installing Mozilla Firefox 3.
It's a free download.
