Vista search

I have a question.

I have Vista Home premium installed and have a question about the search
fcility.

Vista now seems to utilize an index type of system, allowing instance search
results as you type. The speed of the results implies that the op system has
already comiled a file list or database of file names and is using this for
reference.

Does anybody out there have any knowledge of this or am i barking up the
wrong tree.
