Hello all,

I suppose the right thing to do would be to introduce myself before going into all of my problems in the hardware forum.

I'm a Vista user but am decidedly not very technically gifted--I've previously used computers while being completely oblivious to concerns about their make-up. Now that I'm back in grad school pursuing a doctoral degree, my laptop has become so very important to me and technical issues are now life and death (cue overly dramatic music here)! At any rate, thank you all for allowing me into your community and I hope that my questions won't be too annoying (though they could possibly be quite elementary in nature).
