I guess I'm sposed to come in here and say "Hi"
Before it'll let me peruse these forums!
I've always believed every OS made by MS has had some good things (Its had to say that about "MillenniuM" Edition). As I usually use Windows 7 lately, I have found Vista with Service Pack 1 a good intermediary between Windows XP and 7. I still use it, if I never had any trouble with Vista it's just as easy to leave it in. But it is rather easy to repair and it can be updated to Windows 7 in a snap- Plus with a little manipulation I've been able to run ALL of the programs I got used to in XP. That's more true with 7, but Vista laid the groundwork for that, although there are a few hard driver blocks, there is a compatability agent that allows you to release some of those blocks.
Most of the complaints have been about the way the original realease handled memory, but they fixed that admirably with the 1st service pack. I particularly liked the way I could make the desktop look any way I wanted without having to download all kinds of transformation packs, and I used "Dreamscene" all the time. Microsoft has left development of those features on the side o the road, the sidebar was altered in 7 to allow the gadgets to be placed anywhere. But I always used the clock and the CPU/Memory meter.
Anyway, I know alot about the OS, glad to be here.
