Reloading VISTA from scratch won't boot?
I have a Gateway LX6200-01 with a quad core amd processor. System ran fine until the Seagate hard drive died suddenly. Got a new one, reloaded the original s/w and everything was fine - after a full day of high speed DSL updates from Microsoft and others.
This system ran great for a long time then started disintegrating (just like Win98 used to do). My 1st clue was the disappearance of 3 processors on the Windows Task Manager performance panel. Finally, Vista stopped working completely.
I tried reloading the original s/w again but this time it would not boot after all of the s/w had been loaded. What I do see is a line of gibberish, then the system hangs.
I have tried the ERD Commander 2005 Boot Rescue and the ISO Recovery CD for 64 bit Vista. Both disks think they have solved the problem, but I get the same boot failure message.
It appears that something has trashed some part of the hardware and/or software boot sequence. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?
