No keyboard or mouse

I have recently installed a converter on my friends laptop. After restarting, the login screen arrives but I am unable to type. The Keyboard doesnt work although when asked to boot into safe mode I am able to use the arrows to select an option.

I am in the dog house at the mo. Any advice wold be great
