Windows Mail

I have Vista Home Premium. I am having two specific problems with outgoing mail. First, frequently when I have an attachment to send, I will hit send and after it goes through spellcheck, the screen goes dim/hazy and the little icon cirles and then it throws me back into my inbox and the message just composed is lost. Sometimes I have the same problem even when there is no attahment wlthoug less frequently. Any help or input would be much appreciated. Thanks.
