Hello All, Love Vista, want to use it well

I troubleshoot computers and have coem to love the easy handling. I would like to learn how to use the stock programs (I don't want to have to buy a bunch of stuff).

The first thing I would like to know is how to save Contacts, Calendar, and Favorites in Home Basic. If I check all the boxes in the Backup and restore Center, will they be saved? Or do I ahve to save those separately? The Help and Support is not clear on this and no one else seems to know either. Please help.
