I found a couple of questions about printers not staying as the default printer but did not see any reply posts. Maybe I missed them.
This is on a new install of Vista Business. After reboot, the default printer (locall attached) changes to a Microsoft printer. I have Googled the problem and found Vista picks the first printer it finds in the list and a registry hack to force the default. I wonder if there is something simpler and safer. Does anyone know the cause of Vista ignoring the selected default and how to fix that?
Thanks to the previous posts on this issue. I found that changing the registy entry did not help as that entry is automatically changed when a default printer is selected in Windows via the printer list. After changing the default to other printers (Adobe and Fax) on the PC, I realized Windows kept changing the default back to the Microsoft XPS printer. I put a "MY" in front of the name of the local printer making it last alphabetically. Now Windows makes the proper printer (MY hp DeskJet...) the default.
