Hello,
I am having problems downloading many files on my nearly new laptop. Most importantly I can not download the windows updates; thinking this may be the reason other files will not either. There are two error codes given:
1. 80200053
2. 80070570
I attempted to research the reason for these errors, but I am still REALLY confused. One forum said that the first error is a 'validation error' and something about validating windows. I don't know if my version of Vista has ever been validated, but it is not an illegal copy, and the Windows website said this must be done within 30 days, or
"your system will switch to a reduced functionality mode. In this mode, only the default Internet browser will be available to use and you will automatically be logged-out every hour. While operating in a reduced functionality mode, you will be able to access personal files, but many functions will be restricted."
So I guess my first question is how do I know if my version of Vista has been validated?
My next question is why the Windows updates won't install on my desktop, running XP, either? I tried to install just one update from the Windows Download Center and an error box pops up and saying 'file corrupt'.
So now my next question is how to determine if my computers are affected with a virus, since I can't get internet virus scanner (Kaspersky) to work? And Windows Defender says the computer is running normal.
I had a theory my wireless router (Netgear WNR3500) may be causing some of the problems so I tried to mess with the settings, but I got nowhere (have no clue what I am doing).
So my last question is, could my router be causing the Windows updates to fail?
SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

I am running in circles. Any knowledge would help! Thanks
