Chicony webcam -not working

I have a Toshiba Satellite notebook computer purchased in august 2007. It came loaded with a Chicony webcam that has caused me nothing but grief. For the most part, I have been getting messages that say "webcam locked by another application." I have done some updating of drivers to no avail. I now have a message that says "webcam driver open fail. Please restart camera or computer" HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have the same problem and have been reading various threads to gat a solution. Most of the suggested fixes seem to relate to updating the driver through the device manager however if (like my situation) the camera does not show in the device manager, the fixes don't work. I still receive the "webcam driver open fail" message, perhaps the problem is related to the viewing software in some way.

Any help would be appreciated

After much trial by error here is the solution for Vista/Toshiba not detecting Monitor's built-in webcam: ( simply download from Toshiba web site the posted 8/4/2008 Camera utility for Windows Vista).
Chicony webcam now is working perfectly!
It looks like Toshiba fixed a Vista bug.. kudos to Toshiba

My chicony webcam on my Toshiba Satellite L305D is working perfectly
